About Kai Simpson

Aviation Enthusiast • Web Developer • Platform Creator

Kai Simpson is the founder and developer of SpotBase, an aircraft spotting logbook and aviation community platform based in Western Australia. A passionate aviator and software developer, Kai created SpotBase in late August 2025 to give aircraft spotters a fast, disciplined, and modern home for cataloging sightings and aircraft photography.

Living in Perth, Western Australia, Kai regularly spots aircraft at Perth Airport (ICAO: YPPH / IATA: PER). Recognizing that many spotters still relied on cumbersome spreadsheets, slow forum threads, or fragmented upload sites with arbitrary moderation queues, Kai envisioned a streamlined digital platform purpose-built for the aviation community.

As the sole founder and developer, Kai designs and engineers SpotBase through his independent software studio, JETRIX. His focus centers on lean software architecture, instant cataloging, accurate tail registration tracking, and real-time airfield telemetry.

Aviation Photography First

Engineered for aircraft photographers with high-resolution photo galleries, camera/lens presets, and instant uploads with zero waiting queues.

Comprehensive Aircraft Logging

Searchable records by tail registration, ICAO airframe type, airline livery, and airport location with permanent digital ledger durability.

Granular Spotter Privacy

Spotters maintain complete control over their sightings. Keep any log strictly private or share it publicly with the global aviation community.

Independent Craftsmanship

Developed independently via JETRIX with tight feedback loops directly from real planespotters in Australia and around the world.
